The Houston Texans have signed running back Cam Akers to a one-year, $11.75 million contract, including up to $500,000 in per-game roster bonus pay.
Akers, a former first-round pick by the Los Angeles Rams, brings a dynamic skillset to the Texans' offense. The 23-year-old has rushed for over 1,000 yards in each of his first two seasons in the NFL.
The Texans are hoping Akers can fill the void left by the departure of David Johnson and Marlon Mack. Akers is expected to start alongside second-year running back Dameon Pierce.
Akers' signing is a significant move for the Texans, who are looking to improve on their 3-13-1 record from last season. The addition of Akers gives the Texans a proven playmaker on the offensive side of the ball.
