Meningitis Vaccine Reminder
Summer's End Brings Meningitis Vaccine Reminder
Parents and Caregivers: Protect Your Children
As the summer heat lingers, parents and caregivers are reminded that approximately 13% of new students missed their free MenACWY vaccine in school and remain unprotected against four deadly types of meningitis. Meningococcal meningitis is a swelling of the brain lining, and septicaemia is blood poisoning. Both can be fatal. The Johns Hopkins All Children's infectious disease team recommends that children be up to date on all vaccines before going to college, particularly if they are going to live in a dormitory. HibCVs, PCVs, and NmCVs are highly successful at preventing meningitis and other disease manifestations caused by these organisms.
