Amadeus: Ebert Praises Forman's Masterpiece

Envy and Genius Collide in Acclaimed Film

Entertainment Weekly has shared its review of Milos Forman's Amadeus, praising the film's exploration of the complex relationship between Mozart and his rival, Antonio Salieri.

In his review, Roger Ebert writes that the film is "not a glorious celebration of the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart," but rather "a film about the envy of Mozart's rival, Salieri." Ebert argues that Salieri's envy of Mozart's genius drives the film's plot and provides a fascinating psychological study of the characters.

Ebert also praises the performances of F. Murray Abraham and Tom Hulce, who play Salieri and Mozart, respectively. He writes that Abraham "gives a performance of such depth and complexity that it is impossible not to be drawn into Salieri's world." Of Hulce, Ebert says that he "perfectly captures Mozart's childlike innocence and his boundless talent."

Overall, Ebert gives Amadeus a glowing review, calling it "a masterpiece of filmmaking" and "one of the best films of the year." He concludes his review by saying that the film is "a must-see for anyone interested in music, history, or human nature."
